The Runaway Bunny

We finished this unit at the beginning of February but I haven't had a chance to post it yet. For the book, Runaway Bunny, I did an activity/craft/etc for every thing the little bunny and his mommy mentioned. It was a fun one and a really sweet book! 

We read the book every day

Watched an animated story telling of the book

"If you become a fish in a trout stream, I will become a fisherman and I will fish for you."

Practiced fishing with our fish from our "Brown Bear" unit

"If you become a rock on the mountain high above me, I will be a mountain climber and climb to where you are."

We climbed a mountain at the mall play place

And we painted and scrubbed rocks with water and soap and watched them change color

"If you become a crocus in a hidden garden, I will be a gardener and find you."

We made hand print crocus flowers out of straws and construction paper

""If you become a bird and fly away from me, I will become the tree that you fly home to."

We painted and assembled a Popsicle stick bird house

"If you become a sailboat and sail away from me, I will become the wind and blow you where I want you to go."

We made a box into a sailboat to play in

""If you go flying on the flying trapeze, I will be a tight rope walker and walk across the air to you,"

We practiced walking on a tight rope

And watched a video about the circus since there is no real circus in our town

Eventually the little bunny realizes that his mother is not going to give up and he just decides to stay home and have a carrot.

We practiced recognizing numbers and shapes while feeding the bunny puppet.

There were a few more things I wanted to do with this unit but we just didn't get to them all before our week in Phoenix. Oh well, next time :) It was still alot of fun Ember seemed to love it! 

Quiet Book Update

I was inspired this past weekend to make some more quite book pages since I had all the felt cut out from our Snowy Day unit. I though... I might as well add that to the quite book. And then I just kept going for a few other pages. These ones are pretty simple but hopefully still fun and will add a little more variety to the quiet book rotation!

Take the letters out and spell your name

And then a few simple box puzzles to put together

That is all for now! I  need to restock some supplies before any more can be made! But hopefully not in the too distant future!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Here is our "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" unit! This one was so much fun! Ember would tap her lap along during the book every time we read it in and fill in words and make the sounds with me. Just a really fun book for us! 

We read the book every day

We watched a YouTube video narrating the book and listened to our bear hunt song

We practiced drawing along the line (very difficult for Ember... something to work on)

Watched some other movies with bears

Read some other books with bears in them

Made a paper bear bag puppet

Practiced identifying numbers 1-10 in order to find the bear

Used props to make the sounds of the book

Grass - Broom sweeping

Water - Shaking the little water bottle

Mud - shaking a can of green chilies

Forest - banging the drum to "stumble and trip"

Snowstorm - blew into the open glass bottle

Cave - hit the drum softly for "tiptoe"

Practiced "over," "under," and "through" using a toy bear and a tunnel among other things.

Made bear shaped pancakes (I will spare you the picture,,, it is pretty bad. We made paleo chocolate pancakes and they tasted amazing but just didn't quite look as good as a wheat filled pancake... haha)

Made a collage of all the things they went through on their hunt!

Grass - practiced cutting green paper

River - coloring in the lines with a crayon

Mud - painting

Snowstorm - pulling cotton balls apart and gluing them on

Forest - glued on pine tree branches

Cave - 2 googly eyes

Bear Hunt Obstacle Course/Reenactment - this one was a definite hit!

Again, I really enjoyed this unit! And Ember (and Emmerson) definitely did too! Next is "Runaway Bunny."

The Snowy Day

We got a big snow on New Years Eve and a little into New Years Day so I took that as a push to do "The Snowy Day" for tot school and I am so glad I did. Here is what we did!

We read the book every day

We brought some snow into the house and painted it (Ember really enjoyed this)

Then we got all bundled up and went outside for some fun

Mommy made a snowangel since Ember wasn't too sure about laying down in the snow

We made tracks in the snow like Peter did in the book

She enjoyed it!

We praticed cutting along the lines with her new scissors. This is complicated for Ember for sure so we will keep working on it.

We sorted winter and summer clothes.

We put a bowl out in the snow to catch clean snow so we could make snow ice cream! Yum!!

We went sledding! Ember was scared of this at first but near the end didn't want us to go with her anymore. She wanted to do it all by herself!

Daddy joined in on the fun when he got home from work!

We made some white play dough and made tracks in it with a stick and with our fingers to look like footsteps.

Made a felt snowman (which will probably end up in her quite book)

Ember helped tell the story with these cards of objects from the story

We painted a snowman with a marshmallow

We did a tape resistant snowflake. Ember really wanted to paint with red so red it was!

And we made a snowman milk jug lantern! 

It was a really fun week and a half and the real snow was perfect! Next we are doing "We're Going on a Bear Hunt."
