Northpoint Getaway Weekend

This was our first time attending our church's "Getaway" family camp weekend. We went to the Young Life Camp, Lost Canyon, in Williams AZ which is an amazing facility. We had messages about what it means to be "UnCommon", great worship,  and there was a night where people shared testimonies and what God was teaching them in their lives. We also had wonderful food, great fellowship, FUN free time activities, and an "Untalent" show which was actually really good! Here are a few pictures from the weekend. (I didn't get too many)

Ember and Daddy exploring the camp

Ember loved rocking in this chair on the porch of the cabin we stayed in

During the free time on Saturday afternoon, Dustin and I went ziplining into the lake! It was so much fun and I am glad we did it. We went about 30 miles per hour.

Dustin also went down the water slide!

Ember rocking Aunt Rachael's sunglasses

Dustin and Rachael playing ping pong

(there was also fooz ball, pool, and air hockey)

Family picture!

We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to be able to go again next year!

Black Sheep

Here are our activities for BLACK and SHEEP!

We read "Brown Bear" every day

We watched some videos about sheep

We explored a black object bin

We read some other books about black and sheep:

"Black" - Dahl
" Black Book of Colors" - Cottin
"No Sleep for Sheep" - Beaumont
" Sheep" - Mindon
"Boo & Baa" - Landstom

We colored a sheep picture black

We played in a black shredded paper sensory bin

We created a construction paper strip sheep

We painted with a balloon using black paint

Then we cut out the balloon prints and made them into little black sheep

And I hid them in different rooms in our house and Ember worked on her numbers by counting while I was hiding them and counting them as she found them. She LOVED this! We did this many many times!

(We forgot to work on heads and tails matching this week)

Climb To Conquer Cancer

Every year the American Cancer Association hosts the Climb to Conquer Cancer up Snowbowl road to raise money for cancer studies. Dustin and I have both done this numerous times, but this year was the first year that HAPT put together a team. So we got to participate with a bunch of our friends! PLUS, Ryan, Aly, Kiley, and Corbin came up to do it with Doreen on the College America team but they all walked with us. It was a great time and Ember did wonderful on her first Climb. She though we were IN a seven mile uphill parade! And she loved riding the buses that drove us to the beginning of the climb and then back down the mountain after a lunch provided by Outback at the top. A very fun day and a great weekend with the Evans family!

Part of the HAPT team

Trekking upward

We made it to the top!

And here are a few pictures of Ember and her uncle and cousins!

Oh! And I have to post one of these! Ember's friend Evelyn turned 1 today and had her birthday party on Saturday. Ember and I stopped by for a brief bit and got this picture with all the kiddos!

White Dog

Here is what we did for WHITE and DOG!

Read "Brown Bear" every day

Explored a White object bin

Read other books about white and dogs
"A Ball for Daisy" - Raschka
"A Dog is a Dog" - Shaskan
"White" - Dahl

"Colored" a picture of a white dog (didn't have a white crayon so we more just looked and talked about this!)

Watched videos on dogs and puppies

Painted with white paint on black paper

Made a white dog with cotton balls for texture

Made a white dog out of a cereal box and then worked on identifying shapes and numbers by feeding the dog (Ember LOVED this one and plays with it almost every day still)

Moon Sand Sensory Bin
This was really really cool and so easy! But it is pretty messy so I would recommend doing it outside and in just a diaper :)

Ingredients:
- 1 16 oz box of cornstarch
- shaving cream till reaches the consistency you want

Heads and Tails matching again! Ember is still getting better and better at this - just slowly!

Another FUN week! Black Sheep is next.

Quiet Book Update

I made a few more quiet book pages a few months ago and then was just inspired this last week (Thank you Allison) to make some more. Here are the newest additions to Ember's quiet book!

Use the felt facial features to create a face

Comb the friendly monster's "hair"
(Ember really enjoys me combing her hair too!)

Match the shapes to their correct outline

Pull the ribbon ends to make them longer and shorter

Coloring!

Weave the little bumble bee (attached to the end of the string) through each of the rings by the 8 different flowers to get it to the hive!

Watched videos about cats and kittens

Colored a picture of a cat purple

Read some other books about PURPLE and CATS

"Pete the Cat" - Dean
"Cat Tale" - Hall
"Purple" - Schuette
"Harold and the Purple Crayon" - Johnson

Painted paper plate purple

Then made it into a purple cat stick puppet

Made purple Jello

Ate purple Jello for snack
(I tried to make it in the shape of a cat but it wasn't quite solid enough)

Purple Foam Sensory Bin

Made cat craft while talking about circles and triangles

Tried the heads and tails matching again!

Another good week! Ember's purple cat hand puppet is on the guest bed in her room and almost every time we get her up in the morning or from a nap she points to it and says "Oh! Purple Cat!" Hee hee! I think she likes it :)
